Frost questions

Frost questions — Cooler Shock
How long should I freeze a new pack?

Screw-top pouches need about 24 hours for their first freeze. Hard case packs do best with 48 hours. After that, one night in the freezer recharges them.

Part of my pack stayed powdery. What happened?

The water did not reach the mix in that corner. It usually comes from pouring too fast or not shaking between pours. Next time add water in small amounts and shake after each one, keeping the powder away from the corners and handle.

My pack froze my lettuce. Is that normal?

Yes — our packs freeze at 18°F, colder than ice. Keep delicate produce a layer away from the packs and put meat and frozen food right against them.

Can I put a pack in the dishwasher?

No. Wipe it with warm soapy water and let it dry. Heat and sharp racks are hard on pouches.

Can I open a pack to add more water?

No. Once the cap is on it stays on. Reopening breaks the seal and can lead to leaks.

Which pack is best for a lunch bag?

The 6.5" x 7.5" five-pack or the small prefilled gel pair. Use two: one under the food, one on top.

Can I take packs on a plane?

Frozen packs are generally fine in carry-on bags when fully frozen solid at screening. Rules change, so check with your airline and the screening authority before you fly.

Hard case or screw-top — which should I buy?

Hard cases are the most durable and stack well. Screw-top pouches are lighter, thinner, flex before freezing and come in more sizes. Many owners use hard cases on the floor and pouches on top.
